City Council will direct staff to move forward with .75¢…

The City Council will consider an item requesting that staff develop ballot measure language to increase the sales tax in Pasadena by 0.75¢ on Monday, January 29th at 6:30pm.

The measure would appear on the November ballot. 

Also being considered is advisory language that would split the increase to give Pasadena Unified School District 0.25¢ of the increase.

At his State of the City address on January 16, 2018, at John Marshall High School, Pasadena Mayor Terry Tornek announced that he will be seeking authority from the City Council to place an measure on the November, 2018, ballot seeking approval from voters for a 0.75¢ sales tax increase for the city. Also on the ballot will be an advisory vote on whether 0.25¢ of the added amount should be devoted to Pasadena Unified School District. 

Blair High School Health Career students visit to bio-tech…

Select 10th graders from Blair High School’s Health Career Academy toured Grifols, a biotechnology company in east Los Angeles. Students gained exposure to the vast career opportunities in the biotech sector and participated in a gowning exercise in order to tour the main plant. They were also treated to lunch at the Grifols Café before visiting an onsite museum which chronicles how their technology has developed over the decades. 

CHEESEBURGER CHALLENGE RESULTS RELEASED: 1512 voters chose…

Pasadena celebrated all things cheeseburger during Cheeseburger Week January 7th to 12th. Visitors enjoyed food created especially for the event, took advantage of great deals and meals, followed cheeseburger crawls and voted in the 2018 Cheeseburger Challenge. In all, 1512 voters took part in the challenge to determine favorites in 15 categories ranging from Favorite Burger to Favorite Dessert after a Burger.

The Pasadena Chamber of Commerce is an active intermediary for several industry specific high school academies housed within Pasadena Unified School District.

Since June of 2017, the Chamber has enhanced the educational experience through work-based learning events with and through our business member partners. Our work has also positively impacted other members of our community (not exclusive to PUSD) seeking internships, employment and workforce development support.

Summer internships are right around the corner for Pasadena Unified School District 11th graders. The Chamber along with the business community prepares students for in many cases their first work experience. One aspect of this preparation is speed mentoring combined with a mock interview.

Students will meet with three business professionals for 10 minutes each then we shift to a mock interview at the last cycle.
