Southern California homebuyers took their feet off the gas pedal last month, causing the region’s whitehot housing market to level off after six months of record- setting price gains.
The median price of a Southern California home, or the price at the midpoint of all sales, was $680,000 in August, down $1,000 from July, DQ News/CoreLogic reported Monday. There also were 541 fewer homes sold last month than in July, a decrease of 2.2%.

Cases: From PasadenaNOW: Los Angeles County public health officials on Friday cautioned of a new COVID-19 “variant of interest,” known as the Mu variant, that’s been detected in the county. The Mu variant, which was first identified in Colombia in January and since spread to 39 countries, has been linked to 167 COVID-19 infections in L.A. County between June and August, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health.
Vaccines: The rate of Pasadena residents over the minimum eligible age of 12 who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 increased to 85.3% on Tuesday, with another 8.1% of Pasadenans having received at least one dose, according to the latest figures released by the Pasadena Public Health Department. Meanwhile, the city continued to see a gradual decline in new infections, with 14 new cases of the virus detected. No fatalities were reported.
Starting Wednesday, those who lost income in the pandemic can again seek assistance.
