This information provides a greater awareness to the Pasadena community. The critical events detailed below are merely a snapshot of the calls received to the Police Communications Center every day. As your police department continues to move forward under Police Chief John Perez, the principles of the “Pasadena Way” possess greater significance no matter what assignment, function, or mission an employee serves in the organization as we continue to police with compassion and best intentions.

June 1, 2020, 1:46 p.m.: On June 1, 2020, the front of the Pasadena Police Department was vandalized with spray paint. Additional vandalisms occurred at a City Park in the 2500 block of Paloma St. and other locations in the City. There was evidence all of the incidents of vandalism were connected and a subject was located who, officer’s investigation revealed, was responsible for the damage to the City property. The subject was arrested with spray paint cans in his possession. At the time of the arrest, the suspect attempted to provide officers with a false name.
June 1, 2020, 8:52 p.m.: Officers were alerted to a group of people who appeared to be preparing to break into and presumably loot a local business in the 800 block of S. Arroyo Pkwy. An officer responded to the business and found a vehicle in the parking lot that was running and four subjects armed with prying tools, at the front door of the business. When the officer shone a light on the four subjects, they ran to the waiting car and fled. A short pursuit ensued onto the freeway and the driver eventually stopped. All four suspects were detained and subsequently arrested for attempt commercial burglary and attempt looting. Evidence of the crime was recovered from the vehicle.
June 4, 2020, 10:45 a.m.: Officers responded to a shooting in the 100 block of Painter St. Upon arrival, officers discovered an adult male had been shot by unknown males in a passing vehicle. The victim was transported to a local area hospital in critical condition. Detectives continue to investigate this shooting.
June 4, 2020, 10:19 p.m.: A resident from the 100 block of N. Sierra Bonita Ave. called the police department to report that when he arrived home, he noticed a person inside of his house. The person was a known suspect with whom the resident had a current restraining order against. The homeowner confronted the suspect and a physical fight occurred. Officers arrived to the location and were able to take the suspect into custody. An investigation revealed the suspect had entered through a window equipped with an air conditioner and it appeared as if he intended to take several items from the residence. The victim sustained minor injuries as a result of the physical altercation.
June 5, 2020, 2:03 a.m.: The Pasadena Police Department’s Communications Center received multiple calls of a suspicious person in the 100 block of Greenwood Ave. As officers arrived, they heard rustling noises coming from nearby shrubs. As they were conducting a search for the source of the noises, a single gunshot or firework was heard. Officers located a person hiding in some brush where the sound was heard and the suspect was located and detained. Once detained, he was found to be in possession of an identification, which was eventually determined to be unreported loss from a nearby residence. Officers checked the residence and found an opened front door with an unsuspecting homeowner who was sleeping. Other loss from the property was recovered in the immediate area, including a stolen firearm. No one was harmed during this incident and the suspect was arrested for burglary.
June 7, 2020, 1:15 a.m.: Officers conducted a traffic stop in the 600 block of Rio Grande St. of a Dodge that was displaying license plates which were registered to a Mercedes. During the investigation by officers as to why the plates on the vehicle did not match the registered vehicle, it was learned the driver was unlicensed. The driver was arrested for driving without a license and the vehicle was to be impounded. An inventory search of the vehicle, prior to being impounded, revealed a backpack containing stolen merchandise from several stores and several items indicative of recent looting. Additionally, a firearm was also located in the backpack.
June 7, 2020, 8:27 p.m.: Officers were investigating a residence in the 2100 block of Crary St. which was believe to be connected with several recent burglaries. Officers found two stolen vehicles in the driveway. One suspect was detained as they entered one of the stolen vehicles and another suspect was found hiding inside a makeshift room in the garage. Both suspects were arrested and a subsequent search of the residence revealed an assault rifle, narcotics burglary tools and several stolen items.
June 8, 2020, 2:15 a.m.: Officers responded to the 100 block of S. Hill Ave. regarding an assault with a deadly weapon. The victim was sleeping in an enclosure at the location when the suspect stabbed the victim with a knife. The victim sustained multiple stab wounds to his hand, but declined medical treatment. The victim, who knows the suspect, told officers the suspect rode off on a bicycle. Responding officers checked the area for the suspect but were unable to locate him.
June 10, 2020, 3:49 p.m.: Officers responded to a shots fired call in the 1100 block of Sunset Ave. Officers contacted the victim and learned the victim's kitchen window had a bullet hole. Based on the officer's investigation, they believed the bullet was fired from the area of the 210 freeway. Additionally, a bullet was recovered from the kitchen counter. There were six occupants in the home during the incident, fortunately nobody was hurt.
June 11, 2020, 10:38 a.m.: A suspect entered a business in the 1100 block of E. Green St. The victim was seated in her office when the suspect entered and he lured the victim into the restroom. Without provocation, the suspect punched the victim in the face. The suspect took a cell phone and numerous credit cards before leaving the location. Because of the assault, the victim could not remember much about the incident. A search for the suspect was conducted by officers, but he was not located.
June 11, 2020, 8:29 p.m.: Officers were dispatched to the 2000 block of Newport Ave. regarding shots fired. Witnesses reported seeing the victims running south on Newport Ave. A few minutes later the victims were seen walking north on Newport. As the victims walked, a light colored compact (SUV or sedan) travelled north on Newport Ave. and unknown suspect(s) in the vehicle fired at the victims. The victims ran in opposite directions. Officers canvassed the area and located evidence of the shooting, however, neither the victims nor suspects were located.
June 12, 2020, 11:16 a.m.: Officers responded to the 100 block of N. Allen Ave. in regard to a fire at a multi-unit apartment complex. Upon arrival, officers observed witnesses trying to extinguish a small fire on the side of the building. Pasadena Fire Department personnel arrived and doused the area with water. The investigation revealed the fire was likely an act of arson and the arson investigator was summoned. There were no injuries reported and the building was evacuated as a precaution, but the residents were allowed to return as the fire only caused minor damage to the exterior of the building.
June 12, 2020, 8:04 p.m.: Officers responded to Robinson Park regarding a shooting that had occurred. The victims were in the park when two cars pulled up alongside the victims when one passenger exited the car, obtained a firearm from the other vehicle and began firing in the directions of the victims. Officers, who were in the area at the time, heard the gunshots and responded to the park. The victims provided the officers with the direction the suspect vehicles fled and officers located one of the vehicles, which had collided on Forrest Ave. One suspect (with the help of a K9) was located by officers during a search of the area near the collision. The second vehicle was located later in the area of Los Robles Ave and Maple St. which lead to the arrest of two additional suspects.
June 12, 2020, 8:04 p.m.: While conducting a perimeter search of the area of where the above mentioned shooting vehicle collided, perimeter officers at the scene noticed a vehicle attempt to enter the perimeter, then exit at a high rate of speed. The police helicopter followed the vehicle until ground units could respond and attempt to stop it. The vehicle fled onto the freeway, reaching speeds in excess of 100 mph and made multiple attempts to intentionally collide into police vehicles. The car continued into Los Angeles, where responding units lost sight of the vehicle.
June 13, 2020, 4:52 p.m.: Pasadena officers were dispatched to the area of El Molino Ave. and Washington Blvd. regarding an attempted car-jacking. The victims had visited a friend in the area and were confronted by two suspects in a vehicle as they left the friend’s residence. The victims drove away and the suspects followed. The suspects threw beer bottles at them and at some point, the victim’s vehicle stalled due to a mechanical issue. The suspects pulled parallel to the victims’ vehicle and the one of the suspects entered the rear of the victim vehicle and tried to take the vehicle after punching the victim in the face. The victim was in fear and refused to exit the car. The suspects got back into their own car and left the location. Officers located the suspect vehicle moments later and both suspects were taken into custody. Additionally, it was determined the two suspects were the same suspects who were wanted in connection with the June 12, 2020 vehicle pursuit (see previous incident).
June 14, 2020, 8:14 a.m.: Officers responded to the area of Lake Ave. and Mountain St. regarding a shooting that had occurred. The victims had been at a convenience store on in the 600 block of N. Lake Ave. when the suspect vehicle parked next to the victim’s vehicle. A verbal confrontation occurred between the two over a parking related issue. The victim drove away and the suspect vehicle followed the victim’s vehicle. The suspect drove past the victim’s vehicle and the driver fired 1-2 shots at the victim and sped off. One round struck the victim’s vehicle, however no one was injured. The area was searched but the suspect remains outstanding.
June 14, 2020, 1:3 p.m.: Officers responded to a call of shots fired in the 1300 block of N. Lake Ave. Witnesses told officers the incident began at a nearby gas station when they saw three males involved in a fight. Two of the involved individuals, which were later determined to be the victims of the shooting, left in their vehicle and returned a short time later. The other involved party had returned to his vehicle, which was parked in a nearby parking lot. When the victims returned, they pulled into the same lot where the suspect was parked. A short time later, approximately five shots were heard. Both the suspect and victim vehicles fled the scene. As officers were canvassing the area looking for evidence, Pasadena Fire Department notified the police department that a gunshot victim had been dropped off at a local fire station. The victim sustained a gunshot wound to his arm and was transported to a local hospital. The gunshot victim was uncooperative with the investigation.
June 15, 2020, 8:46 a.m.: A security officer at City Hall observed a subject trying to open doors on the second floor of the building. The security guard confronted the subject, who then became aggressive, punched the security officer in the face and took an item that he was holding. The
robbery victim called officers and followed the suspect as she fled. Responding officers located the suspect in the immediate area and took her into custody. The suspect had dropped the item she had stolen from the victim and the security guard recovered it. The victim sustained minor injuries and the suspect was booked into the City jail for strong arm robbery.
June 15, 2020, 11:48 p.m.: Officers saw a male subject riding his bicycle at night and attempted to stop him for a vehicle code violation. Before the officers could stop him, he rode his bicycle down the driveway and into an underground, residential parking structure located in the 400 block of N. Los Robles Ave. Officers followed the subject, located him and detained the bicyclist. It was learned he did not live at the location. Officers conducted a search of the area located an unregistered firearm near the bottom of the driveway. He was arrested for possession of a firearm and booked into the Pasadena Police Department’s jail.
June 18, 2020, 5:12 p.m.: Officers responded to a fight call involving a group in the 2500 block of E. Foothill Blvd. When Officers arrived, one of the subjects believed to be involved, made a furtive movement behind a parked vehicle. Officers detained the subject and a search of the immediate area of the vehicle revealed a loaded firearm under the car. The firearm had been reported stolen out of state and the detained suspect was arrested.
June 20, 2020, 3:53 a.m.: Officers responded to the 00 block of Holly St. regarding shots fired. A search of the area was conducted and evidence of a shooting was located. Witnesses described a group of 5-6 men who fired into the air, began yelling, and fled in several vehicles. The vehicles were not located and there have not been any reports of victims who were struck by the gunfire.
June 21, 2020, 3:17 a.m.: Officers were dispatched to the 100 block of N. Chester Ave. regarding a shooting. The two victims were arguing in their apartment when a neighbor entered unannounced and attempted to intervene. The neighbor then fled back to his apartment and retrieved a handgun. The male victim, who was now standing outside his apartment, heard a gunshot from inside the suspect's apartment. The suspect then exited his apartment with the handgun and pointed it at the victim. The victim ran and as he attempted to flee, the suspect fired multiple rounds at the victim. There were no injuries as a result of the shooting and officers took the suspect into custody. The firearm was recovered and it was discovered it had been reported stolen from Arizona.
June 22, 2020, 11:22 p.m.: Officers responded to the parking lot of a business located in the 600 block of S. Arroyo Pkwy. regarding a female who was seen in possession of a firearm. When officers arrived, they located the described female, leaning into a parked vehicle. There was another vehicle parked adjacent to the vehicle the female was leaning into and all of the vehicles’ occupants were detained. One occupant had a loaded firearm concealed in his waistband and three additional firearms were found in the vehicle the female was seen leaning into. All three adult occupants were issued citations for possession of the concealed weapons.
June 25, 2020, 5:09 a.m.: Officers responded to the area of Madison Ave. and Orange Grove Blvd. regarding an armed robbery. The suspect had approached the victim from behind, displayed a firearm and demanded money. Fearing for his life, the victim gave the suspect money and the suspect fled the location on a bicycle. The victim was not injured. The investigation led to the identity of the suspect and he was taken into custody several hours later.
June 25, 2020, 9:32 p.m.: Officers responded to the 400 block of Bellmore Way regarding a call of a strong arm robbery. The victim indicated she had been assaulted by 4-5 suspects and was riding in the car with one of the suspects (who she had recently met) just prior to the robbery. The suspect and victim were talking outside of the car when the other suspects approached the victim and physically attacked her, rendering her unconscious. The suspects took several personal items from the victim and fled the area together. The victim was treated by paramedics and the suspects have not been located. Detectives are continuing their investigation to identify the suspects.
