The public has five upcoming opportunities to share their views about Pasadena’s public transit system as the City’s Department of Transportation updates the five-year, Short Range Transit Plan (SRTP). The SRTP is the guiding document for transit service development and investments that support the policy goals for the City’s public bus transit services, including Pasadena Transit and Pasadena Dial-A-Ride.
Three general public workshops will be held, along with two others more focused on the needs of youths, senior citizens and individuals with disabilities. The schedule includes:
- Tuesday, March 28, 5:30 p.m., Villa-Parke Community Center, 363 E. Villa St.
- Saturday, April 1, 1:30 p.m., Victory Park Recreation Center, 2575 Paloma St.
- Tuesday, April 4, 5:30 p.m., Jackie Robinson Community Center, 1020 N. Fair Oaks Ave.
A workshop focusing on seniors and individuals with disabilities will be held at the Villa-Parke Community Center beginning at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, April 8.
The workshop for youths is scheduled for 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 5 at 5:30 p.m. at the City’s Housing and Career Services Department, 649 N. Fair Oaks, Suite 202, in the Renaissance Plaza center. The public is invited to attend any or all of the community outreach sessions.
“We need the public’s help to participate in the surveys and to provide us with their feedback. This isn’t something just for active users of public transportation. It’s important that we hear from people who don’t use Pasadena Transit or Dial-A-Ride, so we can learn why they don’t and get their input on how we could provide service to them too,” Department of Transportation Director Fred Dock said.
If you cannot attend the workshops or if you want to provide additional information, take the online survey at www.PasadenaTransit.net/Survey. Transportation staff is also will conducting rider surveys onboard Pasadena Transit buses and Dial-a-Ride shuttles. Both the online and onboard surveys will be conducted in English or Spanish now through April 16.
The SRTP follows a regionally and federally mandated process for the City to continue to receive funding through Metro, the regional transportation agency, and the Federal Transit Administration. The last SRTP update in 2013 provided several key recommendations that were successfully implemented, such as increased frequency of service on Pasadena Transit Routes 10, 20, and 31/32.
Transportation staff plan to have a draft SRTP ready to present to the City’s Transportation Advisory Commission and then the Municipal Services Committee for approval by the end of June 2017. For more information on the SRTP, go online to www.pasadenatransit.net or call (626) 744-4055.
