The critical events detailed below are merely a snapshot of the one-thousand calls received to the Police Communications Center every day. July 4, 2019, 9:42 a.m., a 29 year old male was involved in an argument with a 23 year old male in the 1900 block of Santa Rosa Ave. when the younger produced a knife and lunged at the victim. The victim was able to jump out of the way of the blade. Once officers arrived, the suspect was contacted and arrested without incident. The knife was located and booked into evidence.
July 5, 2019, 12:14 p.m., a Traffic Officer was on his police motorcycle in the area of Lake Avenue and Corson Street when he saw a light grey 2018 to 2019 Ford Mustang with Advantage Ford paper plates. The officer initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle to verify its registration status. Instead of yielding, the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle entered the eastbound 210 Freeway and accelerated to a speed of approximately 100 MPH. The officer pursued the vehicle, which exited the freeway at Altadena Drive. After exiting the freeway, the vehicle re-entered the eastbound 210 at Altadena Drive and continued to drive at a high rate of speed. The police helicopter was in the area of the 210 and Irwindale Avenue when the pursuit was initiated, and began to fly west to intercept the suspect vehicle. Prior to the arrival of air support, the suspect vehicle exited the freeway at Madre Street, at which point the officer lost view of the vehicle and discontinued the pursuit. A check of the area by air support and PPD ground units was conducted. Unfortunately, neither the vehicle nor its driver were located. There were no collisions or injuries as a result of this incident.
July 5, 2019, 9:54 p.m., Special Enforcement Section officers were providing extra service to the 100 block of Painter St. While doing so, they located a subject smoking marijuana and drinking alcohol in a carport. The subject was seated in the driver’s seat of his vehicle. The officers approached and had the subject exit the vehicle. As he exited the car, the officers saw a 9mm handgun on the driver side floorboard. The subject was taken into custody without incident. During the search of the vehicle, officers located a duffle bag with approximately $7,000 in various U.S. bills. The money was booked into the property room and the investigation continues.
July 5, 2019, 9:32 p.m., Officers were called to the 600 block of N. El Molino Ave. regarding a subject threatening the victim with a 13" butcher knife. The location had multiple rooms, which individuals rent separately. The suspect was in a dating relationship with the victim's daughter. As the suspect and victim were arguing over loud music, the suspect produced the knife and attempted to stab the victim. The victim ran from the location. Officers arrived and took the suspect into custody without incident. The suspect was booked for an assault with a deadly weapon and told officers where to locate the knife.
July 7, 2019, 6:37 p.m., Officers responded to a motel in the 1500 block of Lincoln Ave. regarding a fight in progress with one subject hitting the other with a chair. When officers arrived there was no active fight however a subject left the location in a BMW which was reported stolen out of the City of Azusa. An officer located the stolen BMW on Lake Ave. south of Orange Grove Blvd. The driver failed to yield and a pursuit ensued. The officer pursued the vehicle to Villa Park where the suspect fled on foot. A containment was set up and the suspect was taken into custody without incident. The investigation at the motel revealed the fight was mutual combat. The suspect was booked for Grand Theft Auto and Felony Evasion.
July 14, 2019, 2:55 p.m., Pasadena Police Department personnel responded to the 0 block of Alessandro Place on a report of a woman down, possibly deceased in the southwest parking lot of the location. Upon arrival, officers found the deceased woman. Fire department personnel responded and pronounced the victim dead at the scene. The woman has been identified as Pamela Kay Cross, a 69 year old female, Pasadena resident. The investigation into the suspicious death by Pasadena Police Detectives is ongoing. The cause of death is yet to be determined, as we await the autopsy results from the Los Angeles County Coroner’s office.
July 15, 2019, 12:58 a.m., Officers responded to several large group calls during the evening in Old Pasadena, Brenner Park and on Claremont St. where participants claimed affiliation with a local gang. After police cleared out the group on Claremont St., police received information that someone was seen someone hiding something under a dumpster. Officers checked the area, locating a loaded semi-automatic handgun. The gun was booked into property and will be analyzed for DNA.
July 17, 2019, 9:37 p.m., A male was sitting at a gas station in the 1000 block of east Washington Blvd. when the suspect walked up behind him and began to punch him. As he punched the victim, the suspect demanded the victim's wallet and cell phone. The victim handed the suspect his wallet out of fear and to stop the assault. The suspect removed the money from the wallet and threw the wallet on the ground. The suspect walked away south on Lake Ave. An area check for the suspect was completed however no one matching the description was located. The victim sustained a minor injury during the robbery and did not desire medical treatment.
July 18, 2019, 2:37 p.m., Officers responded to the 300 block of east Villa St. regarding a call of a battery. As the officers arrived on scene, the suspect fled on foot, jumping fences into rear yards. The Police helicopter has just arrived on scene and followed the suspect, broadcasting to ground units the location. The helicopter directed ground units to the suspect as he exited onto a street and he was detained. The ensuing investigation uncovered that the suspect had attempted to rob the victim. He asked the victim for money and when she said she did not have any, he began to punch her. The victim did not desire medical attention for her injury. The suspect was booked
for attempted strong armed robbery. Great work by the crew of the police helicopter in maintaining view of the fleeing suspect and directing officers to his location.
July 19, 2019, 1:19 p.m., Officers responded to the area of Old Pasadena in regards to a fight between three male subjects. Upon arrival, officers contacted witnesses who said two subjects were involved in a verbal argument with a lone adult male. The lone subject struck one of the two subjects in the face causing him to fall to the ground. He then walked away. The two subjects chased after the lone male and another physical altercation ensued. The lone male fell to the ground as a result of being knocked out during the fight. During this time, the suspects took the victim's wallet. Officers located the suspects and recovered the wallet. The victim was transported to the hospital for minor injuries and evaluation. One suspect received stitches above his eye. Both suspects were booked in the Pasadena Jail for robbery.
June 19, 2019, 10:24 p.m., Officers responded to the 100 block of Painter St. regarding a possible hit/run collision. The hit/run driver was seen walking away from the scene, towards Community Arms. When officers stopped the suspect, he was found to be in possession of a loaded handgun with an extended magazine. The suspect was on parole and arrested without incident.
July 19, 2019, 7:59 p.m., Officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 100 block of east Orange Grove Blvd. A woman was in her living room when she heard approximately five shots fired at her residence. She immediately took cover and called out to a family member. The victim did not see who fired the shots. During the investigation officers spoke to other residents who heard gun shots. Ballistic evidence on scene confirmed a shooting took place but no one was injured. The investigation is ongoing.
July 21, 2019, 9:42 p.m., Officers responded to the 1700 block of north Marengo Ave. in regards to the suspect threatening to kill her next door neighbor. When officers arrived they located the female suspect standing in front of the location. During the investigation, officers learned that the suspect approached the victims and asked for her own mother's whereabouts. The suspect, who was acting very irrational, was carrying a chainsaw. The suspect was also asking for the whereabouts of the victim’s adult sister. The suspect then attempted numerous times to start the chainsaw. All of the victims ran into their residence and hid in the bathroom. The suspect entered the victim’s home. The suspect was still unable to start the chainsaw. The suspect discarded the chainsaw in the house, and waited for police outside. The suspect was arrested without incident.
July 24, 2019, 2:07 p.m., Officers patrolling the area of Glen Ave. and Washington Blvd. when they saw a vehicle driving at a high rate of speed. They followed the vehicle as it turned onto a side street, eventually driving north on Mentone Avenue from Palisade Street. The vehicle continued to drive north on Mentone Avenue at a high rate of speed. Before a traffic stop could be initiated, the vehicle collided with a telephone pole at the intersection of Mentone Ave. and Montana St. The driver of the vehicle (suspect #1) fled on foot. He was not immediately located. Suspect #2, a 15 year old female, was detained without incident at the scene. Investigation revealed the vehicle was reported stolen from Arcadia. Suspect #2 sustained minor injury and was treated at the scene. She was released to a parent. Investigation continues regarding the identity of suspect #1.
July 25, 2019, 3:14 p.m., Officers responded to Pasadena High School and investigated a commercial burglary which occurred on July 23rd. On the evening of July 25th, officers returned on the report of another burglary and located additional evidence at the scene, which identified an individual for breaking into the school, stealing items and vandalizing the location. The same suspect returned to the location and stole more items. Later that day, PPD personnel observed the suspect near Fair Oaks Ave. and Green St. The suspect was identified and arrested without incident.
July 26, 2019, 10:21 p.m., A male and female adult were stopped in a vehicle for a minor traffic violation. The driver was arrested for an out of state arrest warrant. The passenger told officers there were narcotics in the vehicle. Officers searched the vehicle and recovered a couple ounces of methamphetamine, ecstasy pills and paraphernalia. Both suspects were arrested and transported to the PPD Jail.
July 29, 2019, 11:04 p.m., Officers responded to the 200 block of Del Monte St, regarding a possible shooting. When officers arrived they spoke to the victim, who stated he was sitting in a U-Haul truck on Del Monte St. when the suspect drove next to him, smirked, and shot him in the left forearm. The suspect fled the in an early 2000's Silver, 4 door BMW. The injury was a graze wound that was consistent with a BB/pellet gun. The victim was treated at the scene.
July, 31, 2019, 3:01 p.m., Officers saw a group of 5 known gang members loitering in the area of Cedar St. and Navarro Ave. The officers recognized one of the subjects as having an outstanding felony warrant for burglary. Officers approached the group to affect the arrest and one of the subjects tried to flee on foot. As the officers attempted to detain the runner, a semi-automatic handgun fell from his person onto the ground. He was taken into custody without further incident. Three other subjects were arrested for violations of their probation or parole without incident.
