SPECIAL FUNDRAISER: 6 year-old Donovan Taylor tragically lost both his parents (father was L.A. County Firefighter and mother was L.A. County Sheriff’s Deputy) on Sunday, September 6, 2015. Thankfully Donovan is in the loving care of his grandparents, but he needs financial help. Fire Family Foundation, in partnership with L.A. County Fire Department has established the “Donovan Comfort Fund” to help cover costs of his care and future. At Wheels on Fire Kids Craft area, the NOZZLEHEADS Books by firefighter TJ Spencer will be on sale with proceeds benefiting the “Donovan Comfort Fund”.
“Pasadena Fire Department will be at the Car Show with its trucks and fire rigs. Plus our own Local 809 Firefighters will be cooking for the car show exhibitors. As the Fire Department is an active part of the community, this event is a great chance for families to meet some of the best firefighters in Pasadena,” says Lisa Derderian, Pasadena Fire Department Public Information Officer and Board Member, Fire Family Foundation.
Emcee Dave Kunz is the Eyewitness News Automotive Specialist as well. His on-camera work makes ABC7 the only station in Southern California with a dedicated reporter covering the automotive beat. He also emcees other vintage car shows such as Newport each Concours d’Elegance, the Palos Verdes Concours d’Elegance and the ArtCenter Car Classic in Pasadena. “This event is a great family opportunity with cars and fire trucks and firemen. As it supports Fire Family Foundation, the event will help raise funds for the many fire victims and firefighters who have faced tragedy and destruction this year. Right now we are raising funds for Middletown Fire and the need is tremendous with hundreds of homes lost and so many lives forever changed,” explains Robin McCarthy, Executive Director, Fire Family Foundation.
The car show is sponsored by Fire Family Foundation, which is the charitable hand of Firefighters First Credit Union. Proceeds from the event benefit the Foundation that assists firefighters, their families and fire victims throughout California. The Foundation is currently helping Firefighter Damien Pereira who was critically injured earlier this year fighting a wild land fire. A limb fell on him and the 27-year old is paralyzed from the waist down. As well, the Foundation is accepting donations for a relief fund for victims of the devastating fires in Northern California.
