PASADENA POLICE - COMMUNITY BRIEF June 2022

This information provides a greater awareness to the Pasadena community. The critical events detailed below are merely a snapshot of the calls received to the Police Communications Center every day. Your police department strives to better serve the Pasadena community. Interim Police Chief Jason Clawson continues to adhere to the principles of the “Pasadena Way” as he leads the Police Department into its new chapter. These principles will forever have a lasting impact on all employees who serve in the organization, as we continue to police with compassion and best intentions.

Incidents:

June 1, 2022, at 8:39 PM, Officers from the Pasadena PD conducted a traffic stop in the area of Fair Oaks Ave and Mountain St. for a vehicle code violation. The driver of the vehicle initially stop their vehicle and was complying with the traffic stop. For unknown reasons the driver abruptly fled while the officers were conducting their investigation and the officers pursued the subject. About a minute into the pursuit, the driver lost control of the vehicle and collided with city trees in the area of Sunset Ave and Cedar St. When the suspect’s vehicle collided with the trees, it burst into flames and the suspect fled on foot. A containment was established but officers did not locate the suspect. The Pasadena Fire Department responded to the pursuit termination point and extinguished the vehicle fire.

June 2, 2022, at 5:33 PM, Officers responded to the area of Foothill Blvd and Sunnyslope Ave regarding a robbery that had occurred. The victim was walking alongside his bicycle in the area when the suspect approached him. Without any provocation, the suspect lunged forward and stabbed the victim in the left arm with a knife. The suspect then grabbed the victim's backpack which was on his bicycle and walked away. Officer arrived on scene, located the suspect, and detained him. The suspect was arrested for robbery and the victim was treated at the scene by the Pasadena Fire Department.

June 8, 2022, at 7:10 PM, Officers from the Pasadena Police Department responded to Desiderio Park regarding a music disturbance. When officers arrived they did not find the source of the disturbance but did notice a male standing in the bed of a pickup truck. The officers began having a casual conversation with the male and eventually discovered the male was on Post Release Community Supervision (PRCS) for a weapons violation. During the investigation, the officer conducted a vehicle search pursuant to the PRCS search conditions and found a semi-automatic firearm (Ghost Gun), heroin, methamphetamine, and narcotics paraphernalia. Both suspects were arrested.

June 8, 2022, at 8:10 PM, Officers from the Pasadena PD responded to 3800 block of E. Foothill Blvd. regarding an assault. When officers arrived on scene, the victims told officers they were backing out of the parking stall for one of the local businesses when they saw three females suddenly run out of a business carrying a large amount of merchandise. The victims believed a theft was occurring, and one victim began video recording the suspects and their black sedan with a cell phone. The suspects noticed that the victims were recording them, got into their vehicle and intentionally rammed their vehicle into the rear of the victim's vehicle. The suspects then exited the parking lot.

June 9, 2022, at 2:00 AM, Pasadena Police Officers responded to a call of a male threatening a female with a gun. Officers arrived on the scene and located the victim, and the male suspect seated in a nearby vehicle. The suspect was ordered out of the car and detained without incident. While conducting their investigations, officers searched the suspect's vehicle and found a loaded 9mm
Polymer 80 ghost gun under the driver's seat. The suspect was arrested for being a felon in possession of a firearm.

June 11, 2022, at 10:21 PM, Officers from the Pasadena PD responded to the 100 block of N. Lake Ave. regarding multiple gunshots heard in the area. Officers arrived on scene and located evidence that a shooting had occurred in the area. No victim was located at the scene and the investigation is ongoing.

June 12, 2022, at 1:04 AM, Pasadena Police Officers responded to the area of Tremont St. and Navarro Ave. regarding a ShotSpotter alert. Officers arrived on scene and located strike marks on a home on Navarro Ave. No victim was located at the scene and the investigation is ongoing.

June 12, 2022 at 1:05 PM, Pasadena Police Officers responded to a residence in the area of Colorado Blvd and San Gabriel Ave regarding a vehicle that had collided into the wall. A witness stated that a male and female got out of the vehicle and the male was seen pulling on the female's hair. After further investigation, officers determined that the suspect who was the passenger, punched the victim who was driving. This caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle. After the collision, the suspect grabbed the victim's hair and punched her on the face. The suspect was arrested for domestic violence and booked at the PPD jail.

June 12, 2022, at 8:05 PM, Officers from the Pasadena PD conducted a traffic enforcement stop on a vehicle in the area of Chester Ave and Union St. When officers contacted the driver of the vehicle, they determined the driver had been driving with a suspended license and the passenger was on probation for burglary. During the investigation, officers searched the suspects and the suspect vehicle and found burglary tools and stolen checks. Both suspects possessed methamphetamine and cocaine and were arrested.

June 15, 2022, at 1:16 AM, Pasadena Police Officers responded to the area of Lake Ave and Orange Grove Blvd regarding a male who brandished a firearm. While officers were responding to the call, Pasadena Police Dispatch was able to obtain a description of the suspect and the suspect’s vehicle. When officers arrived on scene, they located the vehicle with the suspect and a female passenger seated inside. The officers detained both subjects without incident and were able to see two rifles and a handgun in plain sight within the suspect’s vehicle. A further search of the vehicle revealed an additional ghost handgun.

June 16, 2022, at 7:44 PM, Pasadena Police Officers conducted a traffic enforcement stop on a vehicle in the area of Washington Blvd and Lincoln Ave. During the investigation, officers learned the driver had an outstanding warrant for robbery. Before officers could arrest the driver for the
outstanding warrant, he fled from the vehicle on foot. Officers set up a containment and searched for the suspect before finding him hiding under a vehicle. While under the vehicle the suspect refused to surrender and a police canine was deployed. The canine bit the suspect and caused the suspect to finally surrender. The suspect was treated for the dog bite, was arrested and booked for the outstanding warrant.

June 18, 2022, at 5:48 PM, Officers responded to the apartment complex in the 200 block of E. Holly St. regarding a suspect who had assaulted five residents with a metal baton. The suspect fled on foot before officers arrived on scene but was found in the nearby area. When officers contacted the suspect was still holding the baton but he dropped it when officers approached him. Responding officers attempted to detain the suspect and he began to resist getting handcuffed. The officers were eventually able to overcome the suspect’s resistance but multiple officers sustained injuries that required medical treatment. The suspect was ultimately arrested and paramedics from the Pasadena Fire Department transported the five victims to local hospitals for treatment.

June 25, 2022, at 8:53 PM, Officers from the Pasadena Police Department responded to the 300 block of N. Arroyo Blvd. regarding a hit and run collision. When officers arrived on scene they located the victim in Parking Lot I of the Rose Bowl near the Aquatic Center. The victim was conscious and had sustained serious injuries. Paramedics from the Pasadena Fire Department transported the victim to a local hospital for treatment. The officer’s investigation revealed that the suspect fled from the scene prior to officers arriving and that the collision was intentional. The investigation is ongoing.

June 26, 2022, at 12:27 PM, Officers from the Pasadena PD responded to the Pasadena Central library regarding an individual who entered the closed library via the second floor while an accomplice was seen in the library parking lot. Shortly after the initial call, Pasadena Police Dispatch was notified of a burglary alarm at the library with an activation along the west side where the subject was seen entering the location. Officers arrived on scene, established a containment, and began searching the library for the suspect. While searching the location, officers located and detained three suspects who were hiding within a crawl space. Upon further investigation, it was discovered that one of the suspects was in possession of keys that belonged to the library. All three suspects were arrested.

June 26, 2022, at 11:47 PM, Pasadena Police Officers responded to the area of 100 N. Grand Ave. regarding an unknown male who had entered the victim's residence. The front door of the residence was unlocked and the suspect walked into the residence before being confronted by the victim. Before officers arrived on scene the suspect attempted to leave with the victim's backpack. When officers arrived on scene, the suspect was detained without incident and arrested for attempt residential burglary.

June 28, 2022, at 4:33 AM, Officer from the Pasadena PD responded to a residence in the area of Colorado Blvd. and Allen Ave. regarding a stabbing that occurred. The suspect called the police department stating she had just stabbed her husband. When officers arrived at the location they contacted the suspect in the front yard of the residence and she was taken into custody without incident. Officers entered the residence and located the victim inside the residence with stab wounds to his hand and neck. The victim told officers he had been sleeping on the couch when he woke up to pain on his neck and saw his wife running out the front door. Paramedics from the Pasadena Fire Department treated the victim at the scene and transported him to a local hospital and the suspect was arrested for attempt homicide.

June 29, 2022 at 12:29 PM, Officers from the Pasadena PD responded to the 200 block of S. El Molino regarding a report of possible gunshots. When officers arrived at the location they contacted one of the victims in their apartment. The victim gave the officers what she believed was a projectile she found in her bedroom. She told officers she was in her bed when she heard a loud "bang." The noise startled the victim and when she stepped out of bed, she stepped on the projectile. The officers determined the projectile was a result of a gunshot from the neighboring apartment. The investigation led them to the suspect in the next-door apartment. Officers spoke with the neighbor and determined he was intoxicated. The suspect told officers he was cleaning his gun when the weapon discharged. The officers recovered the weapon as evidence and arrested the suspect.

June 30, 2022, at 1:52 AM, Pasadena Police Officers attempted to conduct a traffic enforcement stop in the area of El Nido Ave. and Colorado Blvd. The suspect did not yield o the officers and led the officers on a pursuit. The pursuit spanned approximately .7 miles and lasted approximately two minutes. The suspect ultimately stopped the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot. He was apprehended after a brief foot pursuit and arrested. The officer’s investigation later revealed that the suspect vehicle had been reported stolen.

June 30, 2022, at 12:31 PM, Pasadena Police Officers responded to the 1400 block of Lincoln Ave. regarding a call of a firearm. When officers arrived on scene they spoke to a victim who stated he had gotten into an argument with the suspect and the suspect accused the victim of staring him down. The suspect then produced a firearm and pointed it at the suspect. The victim fled the location and called the police. The suspect fled the location prior to the arrival of police and the investigation is ongoing.

June 30, 2022, at 9:44 PM, Officers from the Pasadena PD conducted an enforcement traffic stop in the area of Fair Oaks Ave. and Washington Blvd. As the officers approached the vehicle, they saw a handgun in the waistband of the suspect who was seated behind the driver. The suspect was detained and a fully loaded handgun was recovered on his person. The suspect was arrested for carrying a concealed weapon.
