There is still some time to see “If All the Sky Were Paper,” a moving play about the personal stories of war brought to life through the words of those who lived it. “If All the Sky Were Paper,” a play by Andrew Carroll, is currently running at 2033 East Washington Boulevard in Pasadena until July 7. The play, produced by Arroyo Repertory Theatre and funded by a Pasadena Community Foundation 2023 Arts & Culture Grant, features real letters from conflicts ranging from the American Civil War to the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. It aims to celebrate service, sacrifice, honor, courage, and human resilience in the face of conflict.

The production, directed by Jude Lucas, Ph.D., presents correspondences from both sides of major conflicts. It emphasizes the importance of hope in turbulent times and explores how conflict shapes humanity.

“If All the Sky Were Paper” is scheduled for various dates and times through July 7. Performances are on Friday, June 28 at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, June 29 at 3:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.; Sunday, June 30 at 3:00 p.m.; Friday, July 5 at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, July 6 at 3:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.; and Sunday, July 7 at 3:00 p.m.

Vroman's presents:

The Three Kingdoms are at war, but Meilin's father refuses to answer the imperial draft. Trapped by his opium addiction, he plans to sell Meilin for her dowry. But when Meilin discovers her husband-to-be is another violent, ill-tempered man, she realizes that nothing will change for her unless she takes matters into her own hands.

K.X. Song book event at Vroman's

The very next day, she disguises herself as a boy and enlists in her father's place.

In the army, Meilin's relentless hard work brings her recognition, friendship--and a growing closeness with Sky, a prince turned training partner. But has she simply exchanged one prison for another? As her kingdom barrels toward destruction, Meilin begins to have visions of a sea dragon spirit that offers her true power and freedom, but with a deadly price.
