We've been hacked - and so have you - pfishing schemes and more scams

Hello.

Some of you may have received an email from one of our @pasadena-chamber.org addresses (or someone else) with a subject such as "DOCUMENTS" with messages such as this:

  • hi
  • Please find attached Court Invitation No:1095067847.
  • Have a good day!

It is a pfishing scheme. Do not open any attachments associated with emails such as this.

Some things to be wary of:

  1. 1. There is no signature on the email
  2. 2. There an unfamiliar attachment
  3. 3. The email was sent at a time outside regular business hours.
  4. 4. The email address does not match the name of the purported sender.

We also received similar emails from many our members' email addresses.

Should you receive an email such as this please do not click on any attachments. Delete it immediately. We receive these emails internally, so there is no need to notify us.

There are a number of other scams and fraudulent activities happening that you may want to be aware of:

  • Scam artists have tapped into the Pasadena Water and Power phone number and are calling and telling customers that their service will be disconnected within 30 min and to call an 866# to make a payment. PWP has been inundated with customer calls. PLEASE notify any relatives, seniors, neighbors and friends who have PW of this scam.
  • And there is this notice being left on homeowneers and business doors:
  • Scam notice

The best advice we can give is to be wary of anything even slightly suspicious.
