20TH ANNUAL GRAND BUTTERFLY RELEASE SATURDAY & SUNDAY, MAY 21 & 22

Join Kidspace for a celebration of the butterfly with the 20th Annual Grand Butterfly Release. This annual tradition will take place on Saturday and Sunday, May 21 and 22, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., with the butterfly release happening at 2 p.m. each day at the newly opened Arroyo Adventure. Every year, families and children from all over Los Angeles County gather to release hundreds of colorful butterflies into the air to represent the end of the butterfly season.

Families are invited to adopt live caterpillars from the Busy Bee Learning Store at Kidspace, and a care guide will be provided. Children can watch the caterpillar's magical metamorphosis into a Painted Lady Butterfly right before their eyes! "Our Grand Butterfly Release is a celebration of the spectacular beauty and the transformative power of nature," says Peter Crabbe, Chief Program Officer of Kidspace. Families are welcomed back to release their Painted Lady Butterflies into nature in this grand event.

This celebration includes many fun butterfly-themed activities for families as well as hands-on learning opportunities. Activities include drinking nectar like a butterfly, interactive metamorphosis shows, appearances by our roaming Kidspace butterfly character, butterfly-themed story and music time, making wings and antennae to wear, as well as a special musical guest to celebrate the butterflies' release. "The 20th anniversary of the Grand Butterfly Release is a testament to Kidspace's commitment to bringing nature to the forefront of children's joy and learning," continues Crabbe. "If you want people to advocate for the natural world, the first step is for them to experience a sense of empathy and wonder."
