Pasadena Tournament of Roses® Foundation awarded grant checks totaling $100,000 to 28 civic, educational and cultural organizations in the San Gabriel Valley at the Tournament of Roses Foundation Grant Award Reception held yesterday at Tournament House. Many of the recipients are Pasadena Chamber members. Six of the 28 organizations funded are first-time grant recipients. These organizations are Alhambra Educational Foundation, Don Benito PTA, Friends Western School, Impact Basketball, Inc., MUSE/IQUE and The Hillside School and Learning Center.
Established in 1983, the Tournament of Roses Foundation is a non-profit corporation that manages charitable contributions on behalf of the Tournament of Roses Association. The Foundation assists charities in the Pasadena area by funding sports and recreation, visual and performing arts, and volunteer motivation and leadership development. These grants, ranging from $2,000 to $6,700 will help support new and ongoing programs benefiting children, teens, adults and seniors.
A Noise Within: Classics Live!, a year-round education program
Alhambra Educational Foundation: Music & More program, instructional music classes to every K-3rd grade student at all 13 elementary schools in the Alhambra Unified School District
Boys & Girls Club of Pasadena: Year-round aquatics program
College Access Plan: Direct program staff oversight of the Footsteps to College Club and collegiate mentoring programs
Day One: Day One’s Youth Advocate program, empowering youth to take charge of their lives and take care of their community
Don Benito PTA: Updated audio visual equipment for children’s music classes and performances
Door of Hope: Door of Hope’s Volunteer & Internship Program
Friends Western School: “Theater HeARTS” Project: FWS students, partnered with Occidental Children’s Theater to create and give free performances for the Villa Park community and retirement home
Impact Basketball, Inc.: New uniforms for players
Light Bringer Project: Three Room 13 creative studios located at John Muir High School, Eliot Middle School and San Rafael Elementary School
Lineage Dance Company: Three free dance concerts of “Childhood Stories Unleashed,” in partnership with Kidspace Children’s Museum, Pasadena Public Libraries and Lineage Performing Arts Center
Los Angeles Children’s Chorus: Need-based tuition scholarships for dedicated choristers, ages 6-18
Los Angeles Wilderness Training: Organizing and purchasing gear for the LAWT Gear Library
Mentoring & Partnership for Youth Development: Oakbridge Summer Camp, a four-day camp, provided to John Muir High School at-risk youths
MUSE/IQUE: KIDS/IQUE! – a musical immersion program for foster and at-risk youth
Pasadena City College Foundation: Youth leadership/mentor training program for 60 Pasadena-area high school students who participate in TRIO outreach programs
Pasadena Jr. Chamber of Commerce Foundation: Purchasing toys for Operation Santa
Pasadena Museum of History: Three Family Free Days, featuring complimentary live performances and family art workshops
Pasadena Senior Center: Concerts in the Park, an 11-week series of free evening concerts geared to older adults’ tastes
Pasadena Summer Youth Chamber Orchestra
The Young Artist’s Concert project, an annual public concert performed by high school, college and middle school students
Pasadena YMCA: Scholarships for participating students in the Youth & Government program
Pasadena Youth Center: The Adelante! Program, college and high school students working with elementary students as mentors and tutors; and college students mentoring and tutoring high school students
Side Street Projects: Creative woodworking classes to all 3rd graders in the Pasadena Unified School District
Sierra Madre Playhouse: The Field Trip Series provides free weekday matinee theater performances to Pasadena-area classrooms
Special Olympics San Gabriel Valley: Special Olympics Young Athletes Program, a sports play program for ages 2-7
The Hillside School and Learning Center: After-school recreational activities to build social skills and peer bonding in learning and emotionally-disabled students
YMCA of West San Gabriel Valley: “SOS” Save our Students -- life-saving swim instruction and programs to combat youth obesity
YWCA Pasadena-Foothill Valley: The six-week Girls Empowerment Summer Camp for middle & high school girls
