From Pasadena Police Chief John Perez: Pasadena Police Volunteers will patrol Shopping Centers in Pasadena

Business Operation Safe Shopping For the Holidays

Dear Business Owner:

Beginning Friday, December 3rd through Christmas, several Pasadena Police Volunteers will be providing directed patrols in shopping centers throughout the City of Pasadena. The team of trained volunteers from the Citizens Assisting the Pasadena Police (CAPP) program will be engaging shoppers with crime prevention tips and providing an extra set of watchful eyes and ears to alert the police department of suspicious activity in an effort to prevent thefts and vehicle burglaries. In addition to volunteers patrolling shopping centers in vehicles and on foot, volunteers will check for Handicap parking violations and possibly issue parking tickets as appropriate for the violation.

The Volunteers are also tasked with looking for vehicles that have valuable merchandise readily visible and alerting the owner to deter crimes from occurring. This is a reminder that law enforcement often sees increased incidents of thefts during the holidays, as criminals look for crimes of opportunity, such as mail package theft, vehicle burglaries and theft from distracted shoppers or diners. Be safe and be aware!

If you see a Pasadena Police volunteer, dressed in a white uniform shirt with a Pasadena Police Volunteer patch and/or driving a marked white police volunteer vehicle, say hello and ask what crime prevention tips they can share to keep your holiday and shopping experience uneventful. If you need an escort to your vehicle, ask them and they will be more than happy to assist you.  Please also thank a Pasadena PD Volunteer for their service to the community. Pasadena Police volunteers donate nearly 9,000 hours a year helping to keep Pasadena a wonderful place to live, work and visit.

Sincerely,

John Perez
