KIDSPACE HOSTS ANNUAL SNOW DAYS EVENT AND NOON YEAR’S EVE BALLOON DROP, DECEMBER 26 TO 31

Family Winter Festivities Include Crafts, Science, Live Performances, Tons of Snow, and Kidspace’s Famous Balloon Drop!

From Saturday, December 26 to Wednesday, December 30, Kidspace becomes a winter wonderland as tons of snow will be trucked into the Museum to serve as the centerpiece for the Museum’s annual Snow Days event. Snow Days at Kidspace takes place from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on the weekdays and 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on the weekend. Kidspace Members will be able to gain access to Snow Days one hour before the general public during special “Member Previews” on Saturday and Sunday, December 26 and 27, from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m..

Each day guests will find snow play for all ages, including a special toddler zone for children ages four and younger, in the central courtyard and Galvin Physics Forest event space, a weather station in the Kidspace Gardens, seedling adoption in the Greenhouse, cookie decorating, snow themed story time, art activities, and more all over the Museum. Guests can also enjoy daily live performances in the Stone Hollow Amphitheater from such groups as The Pasadena Playhouse, and Alan Bruni’s Rumbling Rhythms. Kidspace Educators will also be presenting a special interactive demonstration about the formation of snow to add to the fun. The snow play, science demonstrations, live performances, and art activities are free with admission. Cookie decorating costs $3 in addition to general museum admission.

Then on December 31, Kidspace invites families to ring in the “noon” year with a live musical concert, noisemakers, sparkling apple cider, and Kidspace’s famous balloon drop. After the gates open at 9:30 a.m. families are welcome to enjoy the Museum and create noisemakers before the main event, which begins at 11:30 a.m. in the Wisteria Courtyard. At that time children’s musical artist, The Boo Hoo Crew, will begin performing while enormous nets filled with balloons hang above the audience.

Leading up to the stroke of noon, the band will lead the audience in a countdown to the “noon” year. Kidspace staff will then open the nets, gently dropping the balloons on to the guests in a beautiful display of color and movement. Afterwards, guests can raise a glass of sparkling apple cider as a part of the celebration. Guests are encouraged to arrive early to ensure they make it in time for the balloon drop. There will be heavy traffic and parking delays in the Rose Bowl area during that time in preparation for the Rose Parade.
