COVID-19 Coronavirus update for April 13, 2020

The Los Angeles County Health Department has extended the Safer at Home order through May 15, 2020. In addition, people our in public are required to wear a face covering (not a medically certified N-95 mask, which should be reserved for health care workers and first responders).

According to the Financial Times the coronavirus crisis will cut working hours by almost 7 per cent worldwide in the second quarter of 2020, a “catastrophic” effect that is equivalent to the loss of 195m full-time workers, the International Labour Organization said on Tuesday.

The UN agency warned that 1.25bn workers — almost two-fifths of the 3.3 billion-strong global workforce — are employed in sectors suffering drastic falls in output, from retail and real estate to manufacturing, accommodation and food services. More than four-fifths of the global workforce live in countries where full or partial lockdown measures are in place.

Financial Times also reported that nearly three-quarters of Americans say the coronavirus pandemic has reduced their family’s income, with nearly half saying they would be without any income at all if they were unable to work because of illness, according to a new poll.

The survey of likely voters for the FT and the Peter G Peterson Foundation found 24 per cent said their household income had been cut “very significantly”.

Here in Pasadena we have experienced 121 cases among our residents with 5 fatalities (as of 4-9-2020). On Monday, April 13, 2020, Los Angeles County reported 9,192 cases of coronavirus with 296 fatalities. The State of California has reported 23, 132 cases and 670 deaths related to COVID-19. The majority of fatalities had underlying health conditions.

For non-COVID-19-related immediate medical needs, please consult with Chamber member Exer Urgent Care. Exer is keeping clinics and patients safe. Exer regularly cleans and sanitizes the waiting room; patients are directed immediately to the exam room; everyone has the option to wait in their car; all periodicals and toys have been removed from the waiting room. Exer is also offering patients an online evaluation from the comfort of their home via VirtualCare by Exer.

Exer Urgent Care, an ER alternative staffed by ER doctors, also announced onsite testing for COVID-19 is available at clinic locations across Southern California. This news comes following Los Angeles Mayor, Eric Garcetti’s announcement that any Los Angeles County resident who has symptoms may apply to be tested for the virus. In efforts to support patient care, Exer is offering drive-up testing at seven clinic locations including Calabasas, Stevenson Ranch, Northridge, Sherman Oaks, Pasadena, Westwood, and Redondo Beach. In Pasadena, Exer Urgent care is located at 3160 East Del Mar in Pasadena.

The Pasadena Chamber of Commerce is raising funds to provide freshly prepared meals from local restaurants to emergency room personnel, urgent care centers and first responders. We want to show appreciation for those who are on the front lines fighting the Coronavirus pandemic on our behalf AND suport local restaurants as they struggle to remain open. If you would like to support this effort, please click here to make a tax deductible donation. 100% of funds raised will go toward feeding the heroes who are risking everything in dealing with the COVID-19 epidemic.
