Getting to know us: Hello Friends!  Many of you are familiar with CCN - Crown City News, local TV news for Pasadena and the San Gabriel Valley.  Now Crown City News is excited to introduce an expanded version of our brand called CCN Sunrise.  We will cover Pasadena and the San Gabriel Valley with news, features, and information people in our local communities can use every day.  Join us by providing story ideas and news tips, or by coming aboard as a volunteer or intern.  We are also hiring for various professional media positions and those openings will be posted soon.

Job Descriptions

Director of Development

CCN Sunrise is produced by the International Media Training Center (IMTC).  IMTC is looking for an experienced Director of Development (DOD) to join our team.  The DOD will raise money for the organization.  He or she will identify and solicit funding sources including individual donors, show sponsors, grants, in-kind donations, charitable events and marketing opportunities. The DOD will create budgets, provide reports and create and implement marketing campaigns.  Experience, ability to interact at the executive level, and strong written and verbal communication skills required.

Executive Producer

The Executive Producer works closely with the producers and gives approval of the day's segments, features and news stories.  The EP writes scripts and also checks all scripts to make sure the wording is clear and concise, and there is nothing libelous in them.  The EP also has sources in the community for news tips and story confirmation, and helps the  producers make sure breaking news gets covered properly.  The Executive Producer also works closely with the producers to approve the order of stories within the newscast.  The EP monitors all news sources  and entertainment outlets including the competition.  The Executive Producer has many years of experience working in news and entertainment.  2 years previous experience on a cable or broadcast morning show  desired.  Various other tasks as assigned.

Anchors

The Anchor is the key figure on camera during the newscast.  The News Anchor has several years of experience as a reporter, and provides news tips and leads to producers.  The News Anchor has many sources in the community they can call up for news tips and confirmation of stories.  The News Anchor will also go out in the field to report, as well as anchor the newscast or certain news specials in the field.  The Anchor is well spoken, well dressed, and well-groomed, and becomes a trusted figure the community depends on for their news each day.   Various other tasks as assigned.

The Weather Anchor builds graphics to report the weather in a way that's easy for the audience to understand.  The Weather Anchor sometimes goes on location to report the weather from fun events and locations.  The Weather Anchor along with all on-camera talent is a representative of the TV station who will go and speak at community events and schools to help raise awareness of the newscasts to audiences.  Meteorologist or someone studying for their Meteorologist certification desired.  Various other tasks as assigned.

The Sports Anchor directs all sports news activities for the newscast.  For major sports news may be live in the field, but is generally live at the news desk.  The Sports Anchor also goes out and gathers sports news stories to include in the sports segment.  Various other tasks as assigned.

Reporters

The News and Feature Reporters must be able to articulate and express their stories effectively.  The Reporter represents the show and must maintain a well-groomed and professional appearance.  The reporter develops sources, works with photographers and producers to find stories, report the best angles, and come back with important shots and interviews to edit the story and tell it visually and effectively.   Maintains professional working relationships with many in the community in order to get news tips, story ideas, do investigative stories, and confirm stories.  The reporter often goes live in the field for important stories.  Various other tasks as assigned.

 

Producer

The Producer determines the order of the newscast and which stories he/she would like in the newscast.  The Producer writes the show and makes sure all wording works well for the news Anchor.  The Producer keeps track of breaking news throughout the day and determines which stories and what format will make it into the newscast.  The Producer remains in contact with his or her team including Reporters and Cameramen to make sure stories are shot, written, and edited in a timely manner.  The producer works with Reporters to determine the best story for their show and the best angles to pursue.  The Producer provides scripts for the Control Room Director and communicates effectively with him or her to make sure the show gets on the air on time and with the proper videos at the proper times within the newscast.  Various other tasks as assigned.

 

Cameramen & Editors

The photographer, also known as videographer, cameraman, or photojournalist works closely with reporters to record interviews and b-roll using the best possible lighting for each story, and making sure the audio is perfect.  The photographer comes up with clear, steady, creative shots to  help the reporter tell the story in the best possible way.  The photographer also edits the reporters individual stories.  The Editor edits together any vos or vosots for the newscast, and making sure the stories are in the right order for the playback operator.  The editor also edits any packages that photographers can't edit because of breaking news, and all specials.  The editor edits the weekly taped shows, and any breakout stories and segments to be posted online.  The editor is also responsible for the look of any art needed for the news.  Artwork includes creating backgrounds to put pictures or text over, working with some pictures to size them properly, assisting the weather personnel with inputting weather pictures and graphics, and keeping CG backgrounds remain consistent with the overall station look.  Various other tasks as assigned.

Web Producer

The Web Producer is responsible for all content on the show's website and social networks. The web producer will write news and feature stories on the website and post links to social network sites including facebook, twitter, and others.  The Web Producer will also do some video editing, separating certain segments of each show to post to youtube and putting the links on various social networks.  The Web Producer is responsible for making sure the full show runs live and is available following the show online for viewers to access at anytime.  The Web Producer will remain in communication with the webmaster to make sure the website and social networks are working properly.  The Web Producer will promote upcoming shows and specials on the website and social networks using links, pictures, and videos.  Various other tasks as assigned.

Director

The Director is in charge of all the technical and artistic aspects of the show.  He calls the shots.  Checks and marks scripts to determine which camera shots to take.  All crew members follow the Director’s instructions to ensure a smooth newscast.

 

Stage Manager

The Stage Manager is responsible for the smooth operation of everything on the set and keeps communication going between the control room and the studio.  The Stage Manager coordinates hand and written signals between him/herself, the Director, and the Talent.  Boldly and confidently displays the signs and signals in order to keep the Talent aware of anything the Director says and aware of the timing for each segment.  The Stage Manager stays familiar with the layout of the show so that he/she can anticipate whatever is coming up next in the show.  The Stage Manager should also be aware of when guests and other talent are due on the set, and help them get ready for their segment.  Various other tasks as assigned.

Technical Director

 

The technical director is in charge of the technical crew.  Has knowledge of the operations of all of the equipment used in the production in order to supervise, troubleshoot and assist in the setup of the production.  The technical director's primary function during the program is the operation of the video switcher to switch between camera shots, videos, and graphics.  Various other tasks as assigned.

 

Camera Operators

Studio Camera Operators set up the cameras well before the start of the show to set the focus, lock down cameras, and make sure all studio cameras are working properly.   Studio camera operators take direction from the Director through headsets to know which shots to take next and how to frame the shot.  Various other tasks as assigned.

Character Generator

The CG Operator makes sure any title information that the audience should see gets on the screen.  The CG Operator knows in advance the names, phone numbers, and websites, that should appear on the screen at any given time, and calls up each piece of information at the request of the Director.  Various other tasks as assigned.

Audio Engineer

The Audio Engineer studies the rundown prior to the show in order to prepare the microphones for talent and guests.  Audio Engineer conducts mic checks in advance of the show and tests batteries.  He/She is completely familiar with the Audio Board and the steps it will take to get sound from each microphone and to get sound out live when the show starts.  Also in charge of maintaining the audio systems, and making sure sound is coming in properly from live shots, phone interviews, and all roll-in videos for the show.  Various other tasks as assigned.

Playback Operator

The Playback Operator works with the Director to record the news program and to play any pieces of video needed for the show.  The Playback Operator should be familiar with all the tape, disk, or recording systems, and accounts for every piece of video needed for each show.  Also encodes the shows for future replays and webposting.  Properly labels all tapes, disks or disk drives, keeps track of available data storage space.  Various other tasks as assigned.

Executive Assistant

The Executive Assistant will work closely with the CEO, handling scheduling, taking notes at meetings and distributing to the appropriate parties, and making travel arrangements.  The Executive Assistant will answer and make phone calls on behalf of the CEO, write correspondence as needed.  Needs to be proficient in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, for budgeting, training, and presentations.  Must be extremely organized.  Various other tasks as assigned.

Interns, Volunteers & Trainees

Various Intern, Volunteer and Trainee positions are available, including on-camera talent, camera operators, various in-studio and field positions for live shows and taped segments.  Also business, marketing and fundraising positions available.  Various other tasks as assigned.  10 hours per week minimum requirement.  All Intern, Volunteer and Trainee positions will be unpaid.
